Extended Character Classification

Extended character classification applies to character sets that have the DISPLAY flag set. (See Type Specification.) The additional classifications are related to the direction of the text. For example, the LATIN classification means that a character is read left to right; the ARABIC classification means that a character is read right to left.

Searching for an Extended Character Classification

You can search for an existing extended character classification:

  1. Click Search. The Table Search dialog box will appear.
  2. Enter the local character value, the glyph, or the extended classification in the appropriate field of the Table Search dialog box.
  3. Click Go.

If you search for a local character value or a glyph, then the row will appear in the stationary dialog box. If you search for an extended classification, then the first occurrence of the extended classification will be highlighted. It will not appear in the stationary dialog box unless it is the only occurrence of the extended classification in the character set.

Adding, Modifying, and Deleting Information

You can add extended character classifications to the character set:

  1. Click New.
  2. Specify the local character value, the glyph, and the extended character classification in the appropriate fields of the stationary dialog box.
  3. Click Add.

You can modify existing information:

  1. Click the row that you want to modify. It will appear in the stationary dialog box.
  2. Make the desired changes.
  3. Click Modify.

You can delete a row:

  1. Click the row that you want to delete. It will appear in the stationary dialog box.
  2. Click Delete.
