The SAP Management Console (SAP MC) provides framework for SAP system management independents from the running OS. It allows to monitor SAP system's, just with a browser and an istalled JRE (Java Runtime Environement).

SAP has developed the SAP Management Console to allow the SAP system to be monitored or started and stopped centrally. SAP recommends the use of the SAP MC because it simplifies system administration and provides many new features.

The SAP MC offers the following features:

• You can monitor and control any number of SAP systems, application servers and ITS instances with a single tool running on any SAP supported platform.
• You don't need special configuration to use the SAP MC, just install a JRE.
• The SAP MC allows you to:
• Display all SAP trace files, start profile, instance parameters, the system environment and SAP environment
• Display the most serious alerts in the alert tree (Transaction RZ20)
• Display the current status tree (Transaction RZ20)
• Display and acknowledge current alerts (Transaction RZ20)
• Display the SAP syslog for a functioning, offline or malfunctioning SAP system (Transaction SM21)
• Display the ABAP work process overview (Transaction SM50)
• Display the ABAP and ICM queue statistics (dpmon)
• Display J2EE processes, threads, sessions and caches
• Display Java Virtual Machine garbage collection and heap memory information of the J2EE engine
• Start or stop of an individual or all application servers of a system with a mouse-click
• Restart the service without having to restart the application server
• Control J2EE or ABAP processes
• Start the following third-party tools to manage an application server or ITS instance, if they are available:
