Create Tablespace: General Page

Name

Enter the tablespace name.

Bigfile Tablespace

Select this checkbox if you want to create a Bigfile Tablespace. A bigfile tablespace can store one datafile that is of size 4 MB (maximum).

File Name

Name of the tablespace. The icons corresponding to the name of the tablespace will indicate if the tablespace is Online, Offline, or Read-only.

File Directory

Enter the path to the tablespace file or accept the default path.

Size (MB)

Enter the size of the tablespace or accept the default entry. The default value that appears here is based on the number of concurrent users and database environment type (OLTP, Data Warehousing, or Multipurpose) that you selected on previous pages of Database Configuration Assistant.

Edit (Pencil Icon)

Displays the Edit data file property sheet, which allows you to edit the file specification for the data file selected in the data files list. This property sheet is the same as the Create data file property sheet.

Remove (Trashcan Icon)

Removes the data file selected in the data files list. You can right-click the selected data file and choose Remove from the context-sensitive menu. You can only remove a data file that has been newly added, but has not been committed to a tablespace.

Status

Status of the tablespace to be created.

If the status is Offline , select the radio button to change the status to Online.
If the status is Online , select the radio button to display a pop-up menu with Offline Normal, Offline Temporary, Offline Immediate, or Offline For Recover options. Select one of the Offline options. Note: Online is the default in create mode.
If the status is Online and the database is version 7.1 or later, a Read-Only option is also available. If a tablespace has read-only status, the Make Writeable menu option is enabled. When you select the Make Writeable menu option, the tablespace becomes both readable and writeable and the status is changed to online. Note: The Read-Only option is disabled if there any open transactions in the database or any active rollback segments in the tablespace.

Type

You can create the following types of tablespaces:

Permanent: Will be used to hold permanent database objects. This option is selected by default.
Temporary: Will only be used to hold temporary objects (sort segments). No permanent object can reside in a temporary tablespace.
