This page is displayed when the Database Configuration Assistant detects the existence of a Directory Service.
If you are creating a new database, the Assistant provides you with the opportunity to register the database that you are creating with the Directory Service.
If you are modifying the configuration of an existing database, you can use this page to regenerate the password used to authenticate the database with the Directory Service, or unregister the database.

There are several benefits to registering your database with the Directory Service. For example, you can take advantage of Enterprise User Security feature of Oracle Advanced Security. For more information, see Oracle Advanced Security User's Guide .

To register the database with the Directory Service, click Yes, register the database , and provide the credentials for the Directory Service, and a password for the Oracle wallet. For more information, see the following sections.
The credentials must be in the form of a distinguished name (DN), which uniquely
identifies a user in the
directory. The DN must be in the
DBAdmin
group. The following example shows a typical DN:
cn=AmyScott, ou=Marketing, o=example
As part of database registration, the Database Configuration Assistant creates an Oracle wallet that enables secure, password-authenticated communications between the database and Oracle Internet Directory, which provides directory services for Oracle databases.
An Oracle wallet is an encrypted container used to store and manage security credentials, such as private keys. Private keys are an essential component of the industry-standard Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) security model that secures your database.
When you register the database in the Directory Service, the Database Configuration Assistant generates a random password that the database uses to authenticate its communications with the Directory Service. The Database Configuration Assistant stores this password in the database wallet, and in the Directory Service.
The wallet credentials are used to access and manage the contents of the Oracle wallet. For more information about managing and using wallets with the Oracle Wallet Manager, see the Oracle Advanced Security Administrator's Guide.
The password you enter must comply with the Password Management Policy guidelines, which are documented in the Oracle Advanced Security Administrator's Guide. For example, the password you enter here must contain at least 8 characters, and contain both alphabetic and numeric characters.
When you click Regenerate Database Password , the Database Configuration Assistant generates a new database password that the database can use for its communications with the Directory Service. The database passwords stored in the wallet and in the Directory Service are also re-synchronized.
To configure the database so it is no longer registered with the Directory Service, you must provide the Distinguished Name (DN) credentials, and the wallet password that you entered when you registered the database.
