The General page of the data file property sheet allows you to modify existing data file parameters, or create a new data file when the Create or Create Like menu option is selected from the data file object (right- mouse) or the Object menu.
Note: When altering a tablespace, the fields on this page cannot be modified if the data file belongs to a read-only tablespace.
Name of the data file to be created. Enter the file and path name of the new data file. The filename must be specified according to the conventions of your operating system. When altering an existing data file, you can rename the data file by typing in a new name.
You must rename a data file if you have changed the name of the corresponding operating system file, or if you have moved the file to a new location. To rename a data file, its tablespace must be offline. When you rename a data file, the name of the operating system file is not changed. The new filename is only associated with the tablespace. Before renaming the data file, you must change the name of the file through your operating system.
Name of the tablespace to which the new data file belongs. Use the drop-down list to choose the tablespace. You can select the tablespace only when the data file is created.
File Size: Allows you to designate the file size of a new, or existing file. Enter the size of the new or existing data file. Use the unit buttons to specify either kilobytes or megabytes.
Reuse Existing File: Designates that the data file already exists, and should be reused.
