Use this page to add or edit a performance metric for a service test. Select a metric that will be the basis of the Web application's performance and click Continue. You will return to the Performance Metrics page where you can specify the warning and critical thresholds for the metric and modify the name if required.
Select a service test from the drop down list and select the Source which can be transaction, step group or step. Based on this selection, the metric you add will be applicable at the transaction, step group or step level.
If there is no data in the step and step group, this is most likely because the Data Granularity property is set to Transaction. To collect step and step group level metrics, you must edit the test and change the Data Granularity property to Step/Step Group. For more information on steps / step groups, see About Web Transactions.
Select a metric that will be the basis of the Web application's performance. While selecting beacons you can:
Use the metric values for a specific beacon. The test metric data collected from the beacon will be copied to the performance metric being created. Choose this option if you want the performance of the Web application to be based on the performance of one specific location.
Aggregate the value of the metric across two or more beacons. Choose this option if you want to consider the performance from different locations. For example: 900ms, 1100ms are the “Total Response Time” for a test from London and Paris beacons respectively at 12:00 pm. If the aggregate function is Minimum, then the value 900 (minimum of 900, 1100) is copied as the metric value for the service performance metric.
Select the appropriate aggregation function from the drop down list.
Maximum: The maximum value of the metric from data collected across all beacons will be used. Use this function if you want to measure the worst performance across all beacons. Use this function when you want to receive alerts regarding poor performance in any location.
Minimum: The minimum value of the metric from data collected across all beacons will be used. Use this function if you want to measure the best performance across all beacons (ignoring problems from specific beacons).
Average: The average value of the metric will be used. Use this function if you want to measure the 'average performance' across all beacons.
Sum: The sum of the metric values will be calculated. Use this function if you want to measure the total response time across all beacons.
