A beacon is used to execute service tests including Web transactions. Use this page to specify the beacons that will be used to execute Web transactions. For more information, refer to About Beacons.
You can do the following:
Click Add to associate one or more beacons for monitoring the Web application. It is recommended that you use beacons that are strategically located in your key user communities in order for them to proactively test the availability of the service from those locations. If no beacons exist, click Create to create a new beacon.
Select one or more beacons and click Verify Service Test to verify the Web transaction. The Verify Test page is displayed.
The Local Beacon serves as a bench mark and runs on the local host. You can compare the performance of the Web transaction run from each remote beacon against the local beacon. The Local Beacon should be the beacon that is closest to the Web application deployment (preferably on the same network).
Beacons marked as key beacons are used to determine that the Web transaction is successfully executed. The Web application is considered available if the service test can be successfully executed from at least one key beacon.
You can add additional beacons to run the service test, and use the performance measurements gathered from those beacons as a way to measure performance of the Web application.
