Use this page to define the availability of the Web application. Availability can be based on either of the following:
Service Test Based Availability - If you select this option, availability is based on the availability of the test or successful execution of the service test. You can define several tests and designate one or more tests as "Key Tests". All tests can be executed by any of the "Key Beacons" in different geographical locations. A Web application is considered available if the key tests can be executed successfully by one or more key beacons. Additionally beacons also collect response time metrics as a result of executing the service test. These additional metrics are listed in Collected Metrics section at the bottom of the page.
System Based Availability - Availability can also be based on the underlying system that hosts the Web application. A system consists of components such as hosts, databases and other targets. Select the components that are critical to running your Web application and designate one or more components as 'Key Components'. These key components are used to monitor the Web application. You can specify if availability should be determined based on the availability of all key components or one key component.
One or more tests can be marked as key tests.
Availability of the Web application service can be based on:
All key tests being successful
One key test being successful
If there are no key beacons defined for the Web application, the availability will be unknown even if there are other beacons executing the Web transaction.
If availability is based on the availability of underlying system components, make sure you have created that system first in Enterprise Manager.
If availability is to be based on a system, you need to specify the key components that are critical to running the service. You also need to specify if all key components need to be up in order for the Web application to be considered available, or if it is sufficient that at least one key component is up in order for the Web application to be considered available.
If the key test checkbox is disabled, this key test has not been enabled. You can enable the test from the Service Tests and Beacons page.
