About Jobs

Enterprise Manager includes a job system that allows you to create, edit, and manage jobs.

A job is a schedulable unit of work that you define to automate commonly-run tasks. A job is defined by its name, description, owner, parameters, targets, and schedule. Jobs are comprised of steps. A job can be created from the Job Activity page, Job Library page, or from other pages of Enterprise Manager. All job runs and executions can be displayed on the Job Activity page, and all library jobs can be displayed on the Job Library page.

Jobs can be executed immediately or repeatedly on a schedule that you define. You can use jobs to accomplish a number of objectives, such as updating product release information and automating patch jobs, among other things. If you would like a job to be available to other users for sharing and re-use, store the job in the job library.

Jobs are centrally controlled by the Oracle Management Service. At the time the job is scheduled to execute, information about the jobs are dispatched to all Management Agents. It is important that the network communication between the Management Service and Agents be available at that time.

For more information on creating Database jobs, see the "Creating Jobs" section in the Using the Scheduler chapter of the Oracle Database Administrator's Guide.

For more information on creating patch jobs, see About Patching. For clone jobs, see About Cloning.
