About SQL User-Defined Metrics

Accessed from the Database target homepages, SQL user-defined metrics allow you to implement custom database monitoring using SQL queries or function calls. Values returned by SQL user-defined metrics are compared against set Warning and Critical thresholds to generate severities like regular metrics. The SQL script used to perform the monitoring function can return a single value or two columns (spanning multiple rows).

Two-Column SQL User-Defined Metric

When using SQL scripts that return two column, multi-row values, the first column entry must be a unique key value (key column). Two-column SQL user-defined metrics are displayed on the Metric and Policy Setting page along with all other target metrics. You can set or edit associated functions/attributes such as:

SQL User-Defined Metrics and Monitoring Templates

As with regular database metrics, SQL user-defined metrics can be added to Monitoring Templates, which can then be applied to multiple database targets. This simplifies both applying and deleting SQL user-defined metrics across large numbers of databases.
