Differences Between Network Appliance Filers Version 6 and Version 7

The Network Appliance Filers version 6.x series have traditional volumes, whereas Network Appliance Filers version 7.x series, in addition to having traditional volumes, have aggregates and flexible volumes.

Note the following:

Traditional volumes are tightly coupled to their underlying disk drives.
A Flexible Volume simply occupies space within the aggregate, which in turn is tightly coupled to its underlying disks.
An aggregate can host many flexible volumes.
The size of the Flexible volumes can be changed dynamically.
