pseudo device
Device driver that provides similar interface as a character or block device driver but provides better quality storage.
For example, using EMC’s multipath feature, a pseudo device configured over 2 or more physical devices at host level:
Has multiple access paths to the same external storage device
Provides higher I/O throughput to the applications
Provides the ability to cope with a path failure
When a program accesses a path containing the pseudo device name corresponding to a disk partition, then the access is performed through the pseudo device driver by the operating system on behalf of the user program.
