On the Create Metric Snapshot page, you can create metric snapshots that will be used as a basis for calculating thresholds.
When creating metric snapshots, choose dates and times during which target performance was acceptable for a typical workload. After you provide this information, click Go.
The following table lists the recommendations to consider when providing data in the listed fields.
|
Field |
Description/Recommendation |
|
Name |
Provide a purposeful name for the metric snapshot. For example, if the metric snapshot is to be used for the target named dlsun1234, name the metric snapshot dlsun1234. If you have several metric snapshots for a target, you can include a date or reason to qualify this metric snapshot, for example, dlsun1234 - end of quarter load. |
|
Date |
When choosing a date, the data used for the metric snapshot consists of the high and low values of the performance metrics for that target on that particular date. |
|
Hour of Day |
If you select the Hour of Day, the resulting number used for the metric snapshot is the rolled up value over that previous hour. For example, if you select the Hour of Day to be 11, the metric snapshot value will be the metric's average value from 10:01 to 10:59. |
|
Warning and Critical Percentages |
Once the Low Value and High Value columns are populated in the Metric data table, the percentages will be used against the metric snapshot value to calculate suggested thresholds for the metric. Specify Warning and Critical percentages that will be used to calculate warning and critical thresholds based on the high or low values of the metric snapshot's performance data. To specify 10%, enter 10. See Calculating Thresholds for information on how thresholds are calculated. |
After you create the metric snapshot, the Create Metric Snapshot page appears with available data and calculated thresholds in the Metric data table. You can then perform the following tasks:
Select individual metrics to edit, select all the metrics, or deselect all the metrics. If you click Select None, a metric snapshot cannot be created. At least one metric must be selected to create or edit a metric snapshot.
Adjust the values in the calculated Warning Threshold and Critical Threshold fields.
Enter new values for Warning Percentage and Critical Percentage fields and recalculate.
Essentially this is a work area where you can try different dates and threshold values until you get something that is appropriate.
For Enterprise Manager to calculate thresholds using percentages, the following criteria must be met:
Metrics must have numeric values. For example, DBMS Job UpDown is a string metric where a threshold cannot be calculated. The value of the DBMS Job UpDown critical and warning thresholds is DOWN.
Low and high metric values are available in the Metric data table. The values in the Low Value and High Value columns represent the low and the high value of the metric in question for the duration selected for creating or editing a metric snapshot. For example, if you entered a date of December 10 (did not select an hour) for creating a metric snapshot and clicked Go, then the Low Value will be the lowest value of the metric recorded between December 10, 12.00.00 a.m. to December 10, 11.59.59 p.m. The High Value is the highest value recorded for the metric for the date specified. If you specified the date and the hour, for example, December 10, at 1 p.m., the Low Value will be the lowest value of the metric recorded between December 10 from 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.
Warning and critical percentages must be entered. The percentages must be integers > (greater than) zero.
