Use the Edit Collection Settings page to modify metric or policy collection schedules and view interdependent metrics and policies. On this page, you can:
Enable or disable data collection. IMPORTANT: The enable/disable data collection feature is only available for targets monitored by Version 10.2 or greater Management Agents.
Change the collection frequency (if enabled).
Specify how the collected data is to be used: Alerts and Historical Trending or Alerts Only (if enabled)
View any metrics and/or policies that will be affected by the collection schedule change.
If you disable collections for a metric, and this metric collection provides data for policy collections on specific targets, no data will be available for policy collections.
Changing the collection schedule may also affect data collection for other related metrics and/or policy rules. Before changing the collection schedule, check the Affected Metrics and Affected policies lists to determine the impact of changing the collection settings. Caution: Setting collection intervals of less than five minutes will place additional load on the Management Agent.
It is recommended that you use the Oracle default values for the collection schedule of a metric. If you do need to change it, take caution when changing the collection schedule to intervals of less than 5 minutes. If the metric value doesn’t change too frequently, this will cause unnecessary work for the Agent.
It is also recommended that you use the “Use of Metric Data” default values recommended by Oracle.
Alerting and Historical Trending: Choose this option if you want metric information to be collected for future historical analysis.
Alerting only: Choose this option if you are mainly interested in receiving alerts for the metric. Data for the metric will not be saved; only data about alerts triggered for the metric will be saved.
