Use this page to specify whether you want to move the database files during the upgrade process, and if so, where you want to move the files.

| Do Not Move Database Files | The default is to not move the files, except for XE upgrades. However, when upgrading from EE to EE, where you upgrade a database but do not change the database edtion, you can leave the database files in their original locations to save a significant amount of time. Choosing not to move database files speeds up the upgrade, because moving files requires creation of a backup copy of the file and switching to the copied file. This occurs for every file being moved. |
| Move Database Files | If you move your database files during the upgrade, then you can benefit from the typical downtime for this tablespace by rebalancing disks and moving files to more efficient storage, such as SAN/NAS or ASM. |
| File System | If you choose this option, then your files move to a standard single disk or partition. You do not need to manage an ASM instance and, unlike ASM storage, you can still use this disk for other storage purposes. |
| Automatic Storage Management | If you choose this option, then you can quickly migrate to ASM during the upgrade. ASM manages the disk stripping, disk balancing, online swapping of bad disks, and so on. You will need to manage an ASM instance and, unlike file system storage, you cannot use this disk for other storage purposes, because ASM formats and uses the disk similar to a raw device. |
