You can change the name of a database that you want to upgrade, although clients currently using the database may have trouble locating the database after you change its name.
If you change the database name, the DB_NAME parameter in the initialization parameter file is automatically changed to reflect the new database name. However, you must change the database alias name in the Oracle Net Configuration Assistant TNSNAMES.ORA configuration file.

Note: Ensure that the database name that you choose is eight alphanumeric characters in length or less.
