to view a demonstration on Critical Patch Advisories.Oracle Patch Advisories describe critical software patches for Oracle products. To help ensure a secure and reliable configuration, all relevant and current critical Oracle patches should be applied.
To promote critical patch application, Enterprise Manager performs an assessment of vulnerabilities by examining the host configurations collected for your enterprise to determine the Oracle homes that require one or more critical patches to be installed.
The Critical Patch Advisories for Oracle Homes section on the Enterprise Manager Home page, and the Deployments page, shows the number of critical patch advisories that affect your enterprise along with the number of affected Oracle homes to which those critical patches should be applied. Enterprise Manager also annotates Oracle homes that need one or more critical patches applied.

If Enterprise Manager is not configured to provide critical patch advisories information, or if the job that collects critical patch advisories information has not run successfully, a status message to this effect appears in the Critical Patch Advisories section, and the appropriate link is provided to help you configure Enterprise Manager, or to view and fix the job problem.
This topic describes the following aspects of managing critical patch advisories:
To enable Enterprise Manager to provide critical patch advisories, you must specify patching credentials on the Patching Setup page. You must specify the patching credentials for the RefreshFromMetalink job to run successfully, which enables Enterprise Manager to gather critical patch advisories information.

After you have set up critical patch advisories, Enterprise Manager obtains the latest critical patches information. Then Enterprise Manager examines your enterprise configuration to determine which Oracle homes do not have one or more of the critical patches applied.
To view more detailed information about a critical patch, click Patch Advisories in the Critical Patch Advisories section. Enterprise Manager displays the Critical Patch Advisories page, which includes more detailed information about the critical patch advisories, and the number of Oracle homes to which the the critical patches should be applied. Click Help on the Critical Patch Advisories page to learn how to apply a critical patch to one or more homes.
In the Enterprise Manager Database Control, you can view a critical patch advisory overview in the Critical Patch Advisories section of the Database Home page. If any critical patches have not been applied to the Oracle home for the database, the Critical Patch Advisories section shows the number of critical patch advisories that are relevant to the Oracle home for the database. Also, a warning icon appears corresponding to the Oracle Home link on the Database Home page if the Oracle home is missing critical patches.
To view more detailed information about a critical patch, click the Patch Advisories link in the Critical Patch Advisories section. The Policy Rule page is displayed. Click Help on the Policy Rule page for more information about creating a job to apply a critical patch to the Oracle home for the database.
When Enterprise Manager determines that a critical patch should be applied to an Oracle home, it annotates the Oracle home name with a warning icon on the Host Configuration page. Click the Oracle Home link on the Host Configuration page to display the Oracle home page. Enterprise Manager displays a warning message about the critical patch advisories in the Oracle Home Page. Click View Critical Patch Advisories to view detailed information about the critical patches that should be applied to the Oracle home. The Policy Rule page is displayed Click Help on the Policy Rule page for more information about creating a job to apply a critical patch.
From the Critical Patch Advisories page, you can navigate to more information about a critical patch and then start the Patching wizard, which allows you to create a job to apply a critical patch to one or more of the Oracle homes that require that patch. Click Help on the Critical Patch Advisories page for more information.
On the Policy Rule page, click a patch in the Patch column. The Critical Patch page displays. Click Patch on the Critical Patch page to to create a job to apply the critical patch to one or more of the Oracle homes that require that patch.
