Use the System Topology page to:
View the components of the systems and the associations between them.
View the status of the components in your system and the overall status of the system.
Drill down to detail pages for components, alerts, and policy violations.
Refresh the data manually or automatically (at 30-second intervals).
The System Topology page provides a graphical representation of the components of your IT systems as modeled in Oracle Enterprise Manager. This page shows all components, represented as icons, as well as associations between them, represented as links between components.
The status indicators over each icon enable you to quickly assess which components are down or have open alerts. You can select any of these components to see this data in the Selection Details window. Alternatively, you can check the Summary section for a quick overview of the current status of your system.
Note: This page only functions properly with Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater on the Windows operating system. This page also requires Adobe SVG Viewer 3.0. If either of these is not installed on the Windows operating system you are currently using, the page that appears instead enables you to view associations within a text-based tabular interface, rather than a graphic interface. For information on using this tabular interface, see Providing Associations in a Non-SVG Environment.
Associations show the relationships (that do not necessarily imply dependencies) between components within the system. Associations are depicted visually as links. Components that aren't associated are displayed below associated components. Only the redundancy groups are always shown as expanded.
Use the Overview window to set the zoom level for the main window. The Overview window always displays the entire workspace for the topology; the zoom setting changes the size of the view selector (the blue box) and the view in the main window. Drag and drop the view selector in the Overview window to choose what to display in the main window.
When you select a component in the main window, the Selection Details window displays information about that component, including target type, name, status, alerts and violations, and host where the component resides. Click the following links to go to the pages indicated:
| Link |
Page |
|---|---|
| Type | Target type of the selected component. |
| Name |
Component's home page. Alternatively, you can right-click a component in the main window and choose Go to Home Page. |
| Status | Availability (Status History) page |
| Critical Alerts | Status Report - Critical Alerts page |
| Warning Alerts | Status Report - Warning Alerts page |
| Policy Violations | Policy Violations page |
| Host | Home page for this host. |
The Summary window shows the number of components and their status, alerts, and policy violations for the entire system as described below.
| Summary Item |
Description |
|---|---|
| Components | The first number shows the total number of components. When you click on this number, the System Components page appears, which shows detailed information for each component. The numbers in parenthesis show the number of components down, the number in an unknown state, and the number up. Click on any of these number links to go to the Member Status page for detailed information. |
| Alerts |
Shows the rolled-up number of alerts. The first number in red shows the number of critical alerts, and the second number in yellow shows the number of warning alerts. Click on either number link to go to the Status Report page for that particular alert category. |
| Policy Violations | Shows the rolled-up number of Oracle guideline violations across all member targets in a system. This includes all types of violations, including security violations. The first number in red shows the number of critical violations, the second number in yellow shows the number of warning violations, and the third number in blue shows the number of informational messages. Click on any number link to go to the Policy Violations page for that particular category. |

Select one of the following views from the View Data drop-down list for refresh intervals:
Manual Refresh -- Press F5 to refresh.
30-second Refresh -- The view automatically refreshes every 30 seconds.
Click Edit System in the Related Links section, then the Topology tab to make changes to your system topology.
Right-click in the main window and select Save As to save
the topology graph as an SVG
file. You can later view the topology separately, print it out, or embed it
in other files that accept the SVG format. For example, you can prepare a PDF
report of service or system performance and embed the topology in the report.
