System Add/Edit Chart Page

Use the Add Chart or Edit Chart page to add or edit a performance chart for the system.

The metrics you choose to be charted typically provide overall performance information for targets in the system. For example, you might want to monitor the average CPU Utilization across all hosts in the system. You could create a chart to monitor this by selecting Host as the Type, and CPU Utilization as the Metric. After you click Continue, your selections for this page appear in the Create/Edit System: Charts page.

A group statistic chart is defined to obtain overall performance information for one target type within the system. For example, if you select the CPU Utilization (%) metric for the host target type, Enteprise Manager automatically calculates the average, maximum, and minimum value of the CPU Utilization (%) metric for all host targets in the system.

Usage Tips

Consider the following guidelines as you review the Add Chart or Edit Chart page.

Selecting System Statistics

The values of the statistic types you select are collected at regular intervals. For example, if you make the following selections:

The value of the maximum CPU utilization (by any host in the system) is collected at 15-minute intervals and charted.

Sum is the sum of the metric value for all targets of this type in the system. For example, Current Logons Count can be summed across all databases in the system.

Standard Deviation indicates the distribution of this metric across all targets of this type in the system. For example, a standard deviation chart for Current Logons Count on the databases in the system shows how the logons count differs across these databases at specific points in time.

Populating the Selected Targets List

The table list under Selected Targets is dependent on the targets you have added on the Members page, and which target type you select in the Type drop-down list at the top. The Type drop-down list shows only target members you have defined previously in the Members page. Similarly, if you select a target from the Type list, such as Database Instance for instance, only instances you have configured in the Members page appear when you click Selected Targets.

For example, if you have added three databases and five hosts to this system and have selected Database Instance from the Type drop-down list, only the three databases would appear in the Selected Targets list.

You can select an unlimited number of targets with this option.
