Usage Tips

Consider the following guidelines as you review the Create Static Metric Baseline page.

Selecting a Time Period

Enterprise Manager computes statistics on all the metrics referenced by the baseline. For a static baseline, Enterprise Manager only computes statistics once, which is when the baseline is created. The two dates for a static baseline period define the fixed interval that calculates metric statistics for later comparisons.

Configuring Baseline Period Groups

Time grouping options available for a baseline depend on the size of the time period for the baseline, as shown in the following table:

Option

Baseline Period

By Day and Night

Creates 2 groups:

  • Day hours (7a.m. to 7p.m.)
  • Night hours (7p.m. to 7a.m.)
By Hour of Day Creates 24 hourly groups.
By Weekdays and Weekend

Creates 2 groups:

  • Weekdays (Monday through Friday) together
  • Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) together
By Day of Week Creates 7 daily groups.

You can combine these options. For instance, grouping by Day and Night and Weekdays and Weekend produces 4 groups.

Computing Statistics

This feature helps identify whether the selected time period and time grouping will yield sufficient data for baseline statistics. When you click Compute Statistics , a list of metrics appear in the table that show actual statistics based on the configuration you provided. You cannot change the set of baseline-able metrics.

If an alert message appears in the Sufficient Data column, there is either insufficient data to perform reliable calculations, or the data characteristics do not fit the metric baselines model.
