A beacon is a target that allows an agent to monitor services. A beacon can monitor one or more services at any point in time. Use this page to specify the beacons that will be used to run the service tests.
You can do the following:
Click Add to add one or more beacons for monitoring the service. It is recommended that you use beacons that are strategically located in your key user communities in order for them to proactively test the availability of the service from those locations. If no beacons exist, click Create to create a new beacon.
Select one or more beacons and click Verify Service Test to verify that the beacon is able to successfully run the service test. The Verify Test page is displayed.
Beacons marked as key beacons will be used to determine the availability of the service. The service is available if the service test is successfully executed from at least one key beacon.
You can add additional beacons to run the service test, and use the performance measurements gathered from those beacons as a way to measure performance of the service.
For Web applications, you can compare the performance of the service test run from each remote beacon against the local beacon.
