Use this page to define a business metric of the underlying system components on which this service is hosted. Select a system component and then select the metric and click Continue. You will return to the Generic Service: Business Metrics page where you can specify the warning and critical thresholds for the metric and modify the name if required.
Select the Target Type from the drop down list and then select a metric.
While selecting system components, you can:
Use the metric values from a specific component. Select the specific object monitored by the metric for the selected component. Choose this option if you want the business metric to be based on the performance of one specific system component.
Aggregate the value of the metric across two or more system components. For example, you can select the OC4J's Active Requests metric to represent performance of the service. You can then choose the value of this metric from one specific OC4J or aggregate the value across multiple OC4Js. Choose this option if you want to measure the business performance from multiple components. Select the appropriate aggregation function from the drop down list.
Maximum : The maximum value of the metric across all components will be used as the value of this business metric for the service.
Minimum : The minimum value of the metric across all components will be used as the value of this business metric for the service.
Average : The average value of the metric across all components will be used.
Sum : The sum of the values of metrics across all components will be calculated.
Note: While specifying the object for metrics that require key values, the list of objects shown in the popup window may be empty or may not contain the full set. This is because only the objects that have been collected recently are shown.
