Root Cause Analysis Previous Updates Page

You can use Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to filter a set of events to determine the cause of a higher level system, service, or application problem. RCA can help you to eliminate apparent performance problems that may otherwise appear to be root causes but which are only side effects or symptoms of the actual root cause of the problem, allowing you to more quickly identify problem areas. You can view the RCA results on the home page or topology page of any service that is currently down.  The topology page allows you to see a graphical representation of the service, system and component dependencies with the target(s) highlighted that RCA has implicated as causing the service failure.

When new information about a service failure is gathered by Root Cause Analysis, it updates the information about the outages on a regular basis and provides a history in the form of an Analysis Update History. Each entry into this table contains a Confidence level indicating the accuracy and availability of the information RCA used to perform that analysis.

You can use the Root Cause Analysis Previous Updates page to view this analysis summary and to drill down for more information about specific analyses performed at previous points in time.

Usage Tips

The Previous Updates page summarizes the number of updates available, the time of the most recent update, and the current status of the service analysis.

Click the Timestamp link for an entry to see detailed information about the specific previous update to RCA. You can also use the Analysis Update History table to view the number of exceptions and causes encountered for each analysis. The true value of the Previous Updates page is in providing a history of what has changed over a period of time while allowing you to view information in retrospect that may shed light on the current state of the service.

Note: Only incidents of significance are recorded in the Analysis Update History table.
