Notification rules allow you to choose the targets and conditions for which you want to receive notifications from Enterprise Manager. The methods for sending notifications include e-mail, SNMP traps, or running custom scripts, or all three.
After you set up your notification methods, you can define the rules that Enterprise Manager will use when sending notifications.
The procedure you use to define notification rules, depends upon whether or not you are a privileged user.
If you are a privileged user, define notification rules as follows:
From the Enterprise Manager Console, click Preferences at the top of the page.
Click Notification Rules in the vertical navigation bar.
The Enterprise Manager Console displays the Notification Rules page. Any notification rules already created are listed in the Notification Rules table.
Click Create to show the Create Notification Rule Property Pages.
Enterprise Manager displays the Create Notification Rule Property Pages. Follow the instructions on each page to create your notification rule.
Use the pages to define a target or set of targets, the target availability states for which you would like to receive notifications, the metrics you want to monitor for thresholds, the policies you want to monitor for thresholds, the job status changes you want to monitor, and the notification action you want to take when a threshold is exceeded or a job state changes.
Note: Notifications for past target states during unreachable will not be sent, only notifications for current state will be sent. The only way to receive current target status after an unreachable state is by checking "Unreachable Resolved."
If you are a not a privileged user, refer to Creating Notification Rules If You are Not a Privileged User.
