An Oracle Management Agent is required on every host computer where a target is being monitored. After installation, the Oracle Management Agent starts monitoring itself, the host it is installed on, and any databases, listeners and Oracle Application Servers that are also installed on the same host computer. This process is called autodiscovery.
The Oracle Management Agent is also responsible for managing and maintaining the host and the products installed on the host.
By default, during the installation of the Oracle Management Service and Management Repository (the Enterprise Manager middle tier), an Oracle Management Agent installation is also performed. This Oracle Management Agent will discover at least the host and the Oracle Application server and database that have been installed as part of the same install session.
Note: For the current release of the Oracle Enterprise Manager, you must use the instructions in the Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control Installation and Configuration Guide to install an Oracle Management Agent on each monitored host.
