Targets are the entities you use Oracle Enterprise Manager to monitor and manage.
Examples of a target include:
a Sun Solaris host computer
An Oracle9i Application Server or an instance of Oracle HTTP Server
a database
a web application
a critical component of Enterprise Manager
Enterprise Manager contains self-monitoring capabilities that ensure its own critical components are available and functional. During the Management Repository creation of an Oracle Enterprise Manager installation, two special targets, the OMS and Repository target and Enterprise Manager Web Application (Website) target, are created to help monitor the overall health of Enterprise Manager.
A complete list of the target types you can manage is provided in the Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control Installation and Configuration.
For conceptual information about Enterprise Manager, see the Oracle Enterprise Manager Concepts.
