Copy Thresholds To (From) Current Target

On the Copy Thresholds To (From) Current Target page, you can copy thresholds from one target to other targets. The targets must be of the same type. For example, you can copy thresholds from a host target to another host target. However, you cannot copy thresholds from a database target to a host target.

You can use the copy thresholds feature to standardize monitoring across targets.

The following table provides descriptions of the fields and examples of the copy operations.

Field

Description and Example

Copy common thresholds

Copies the thresholds and the associated response actions from the source target to the destination target for those metrics that are found in both targets.

Note: You are responsible for ensuring that the response action script is in all destination targets.

The following tables provide an example.

Before the Copy:

Source Target (Host A) Destination Target (Host B)
Metric Warning Critical Metric Warning Critical
Disk Utilization (%) 80 90 Disk Utilization (%) 85 95

After the Copy:

Source Target (Host A) Destination Target (Host B)
Metric Warning Critical Metric Warning Critical
Disk Utilization (%) 80 90 Disk Utilization (%) 80 90

Copy all thresholds

Copies all the thresholds and the associated response actions from the source target to the destination target. This copy includes copying the values of the objects from the source target that are not on the destination target. However, the multiple thresholds that exist only on the destination target are deleted from the destination target.

Note: You are responsible for ensuring that the response action script is in all destination targets.

The following tables provide an example.

Before the Copy:

Source Target (Host A) Destination Target (Host B)
Metric Warning Critical Metric Warning Critical
Disk Utilization (%)     Disk Utilization (%)
sd1 60 70 sd0 70 80
All others 80 90 All others 50 60
Filesystem Space Available (%) 30 20 Filesystem Space Available (%)
      /u1 25 15
      All others 10 5

After the Copy:

Source Target (Host A) Destination Target (Host B)
Metric Warning Critical Metric Warning Critical
Disk Utilization (%)     Disk Utilization (%)
sd1 60 70 sd1 60 70
All others 80 90 All others 80 90
Filesystem Space Available (%) 30 20 Filesystem Space Available (%) 30 20

The threshold associated with sd0 on Host B has been deleted because it is only specified on destination target B and not target A. The same is true with multiple thresholds associated with Filesystem Space Available (%) on Host B. These thresholds are also deleted.

Usage Tips

Some targets are monitored by multiple Management Agents and are referred to as multi-agent targets. Other targets are monitored by a single Management Agent and are referred to as single-agent targets.

The copy will be implemented as an internal job when the copy is from a:

If the copy is done from one single-agent target to just one single-agent target, the operation is done synchronously (no job is submitted).

You can check the status of this copy job by viewing the Pending Changes link under the Related Links section of the Manage Metrics page.
